REMEMBERING LOVE

REMEMBER ME?
I WAS THE ONE AT YOUR SIDE
WHEN GOD WOKE YOU UP AND YOU
OPENED YOUR EYES REMEMBER ME?

I WAS LYING NEXT TO YOU
AS WE TRAVELED TO A WORLD UNKNOWN
CHAINED AND WHIPPED
FAR FROM HOME
REMEMBER ME?

I WAS AT YOUR SIDE
AS WE WERE BEING SOLD
AND STRIPPED OF OUR PRIDE
REMEMBER ME?

I WAS RUNNING BESIDE YOU AS
WE ESCAPED
SCARED BUT DETERMINED TO
CONTROLL OUR OWN FATE
REMEMBER ME?

I WAS THE ONE NEXT TO YOU
AS WE MARCHED AND PROTESTED
IN THE STREET I FELT OUR PAIN
AS THE STICKS POUNDED US TO
OUR FEET
REMEMBER ME?

YOU DONT HAVE TO REMEMBER
MY NAME
BUT WHEN YOU REMEMBER LOVE
REMEMBER ME?

THE BLACK WOMAN
