Just To Black

I was shunned by my own race
Because of the color of my face
I asked why I couldn't be
A part of the "pack"
They said because
You're just too black

I never had a friend
You were only popular
If you had light skin
I never understood what
It was that I lack
They said because
You're just too black

Mom said, "You're beautiful""
Dad said "You're great"
But not once did I have a date
But there skin color is not far from mine
So one day they will be left behind,
When someone says to them
The color of your face is not right
They will say because
You're just not white
