Our Heritage

Shall we say now, as we have before,
There is no welcome, no open door?
That all the world has shut us out,
And hopelessness and strife lay all about?
O lazy cowards! It shall not be,
For an open door we all should see.
We shall face the future and demand of life
Our heritage, and no deadening strife.

We have a right to a life that is full,
A life that is useful and happy and gay,
And out of the chaos of vibrant things
We should have faith to carve our way,
And cling to the faith of struggling men,
Though deep sorrow may come our way.
