The Pitch Out
The ball moves
toward
the plate
like a note
played by
Ben Webster
a sound so large
you just listen
as it passes far
outside your ear
You're surprised
when the catcher
catches the ball
he wants to throw
The runner on first
stops
in his tracks
like a young jazz critic
Why run?
