BLACK MAN, BLACK MAN

IS IT MY EYES THAT DECEIVE YOU?
OR ARE YOU INTIMIDATED BY MY BEAUTY?
IS IT THE FACT THAT I LET YOU KNOW
I HATE BEING CALLED "BABY" AND "CUTIE"?

IS IT THE WAY I TALK
OR THE WAY I GIVE A LIL SWITCH WHEN I WALK?
IT HURTS ME TO SEE
THAT YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT ME

WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER
SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME
I WATCHED YOUR BACK AND
I THOUGHT YOU HAD MINE

WELL I SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN
CAUSE MY LOVE YOU DON'T SEEM TO BE APPRECIATIN

I WOULD WALK ON FOOT THROUGH THE DESERT FOR DAYS
JUST TO GET A LIL BIT OF PRAISE
TO HEAR, "MY BEAUTIFUL BLACK SISTAH, MY EBONY QUEEN"
BUT TOWARDS THE SOUNDS OF NOTHINGNESS IS WHERE I LEAN.

FALLIN, FALLIN, LIKE ALICIA KEYES IN A HOLE OF DESPAIR
IF I LOOK BEHIND ME WILL YOU BE THERE?
I HEAR ALL THE TIME THAT THERE IS NO
GREATER LOVE THAN THE BLACK QUEEN
BUT ARE YOU SAYING THIS TO SEEM BLACK ENOUGH
OR IS IT REALLY WHAT YOU MEAN?

TO LOVE ME IS TO RESPECT ME
AND TO RESPECT ME IS TO LOVE THYSELF
CAN I ASK YOU ONE?
WHY IS IT THAT YOU CHOOSE TO
LEAVE BLACK SISTAHS ON THE SHELF?

DO YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER?
IS THE MESSAGE COMING THROUGH CLEAR?
BE AWARE CAUSE YOU MAY LOSE
THAT BLACK SISTAH STANDIN IN THE REAR.
