Does distance cause us to slip away?
Or is distance in the mind?
Is distance just the physical?
It can't be just the time away
That turns into change
It could be me so foolishly
Just caught up in a game
The game men and women play
But distance is so hard to bear
When it's happening so long
A breaking heart can't be justified
For the sake of a song.

Distance makes you slip
Makes you forget what you once thought
Makes you think you won't get caught
Gets you into what you ought
To know better
Yet it leads to the truth
If you take time to hear its whisper
Listen sister
To yourself
And don't slip away.

Love with a shot of distance
A potent drink
That can make you slip
Makes you forget what you once thought
Makes you think you won't get caught

To know better
That's love with a shot of distance.

The stakes are high
It's costly to try
When you're drunk you always lie
Just to get by
On love with a shot of distance.
